Why Trees

Trees have ruled the lands of Earth for around 400 million years, predating all mammals, birds, and reptiles, including dinosaurs. Of these natural wonders there are approximately 73,000 species in the world. Throughout history we have learned much about how beneficial they are to us, the planet and our survival. Trees are considered to be very valuable natural resources that we rely on heavily. Trees provide us with oxygen, help filter our water, provide habitats for wildlife. With their timber we create paper, houses, furniture and so much more.

Not only have trees given us all of these things, but they are beautiful in their own right. They are one of mother nature’s wonderful works of art. Throughout time the beauty of trees have been long admired. Long time naturalists, people of science and ecology, artists, writers and poets alike have ascribed many attributes, emotions and symbolic meaning to them in wonderful ways.

The Shady Tree wants to celebrate trees and to help promote the wonderful way they have woven their way into our lives. There are stories of trees, works of art, poetry and even music about trees. When we see these meanings and associations in them they remind people that they are more than just a natural resource, they are part of the world’s history. The associations we have with them has varied dynamically along with the generations. We want to protect and preserve them for future generations to be inspired by and that is why 5% of all our proceeds will be donated to The Arbor Day Foundation who help give back to nature by planting more trees, helping to end deforestation and much more.
